A Venezuelan firm, Venepal, in which Smurfit Stone Container Corporation has a 30 per cent stake, has filed for bankruptcy, according to a report in local newspaper El Universal.

Jefferson Smurfit has a 33 per cent interest in Smurfit Stone.According to El Universal, Venepal has debt of $100 million (€113.4 million).
