51% up for Bitbuzz
Wi-Fi hotspot operator Bitbuzz saw a 51 per cent rise in registered users in 2009 to finish the year with 215,860 accounts, it said this week.
At the end of the year, it had 204 hotspots around the country, up from 178 a year previously. In 2009 it launched its first open-air wireless network at the Dingle marina in Co Kerry, and developed an iPhone app to show users the nearest hotspots.
Smartphones drove much of the growth, managing director Shane Deasy said.
