A SPOKESPERSON for Fruit of the Loom confirmed yesterday that its employees had been informed that some short time working may have to be introduced at the company's factories on both sides of the Border. Last January, employees at the company's Donegal factories ended a period of short time working. On Tuesday, management distributed a circular to all employees stating that additional short time working could be necessary due to lower than expected sales. The circular also stated that the company was waiting on sales forecasts from around Europe. Last weekend, company executives held a meeting in Switzerland to discuss the situation.
