Pat Shanahan has decided to step down as chairman of the Shannon Airport Authority, The Irish Timeshas learned.

Mr Shanahan has informed Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey that he does not want to serve a second five-year term with the authority. He is also leaving the board of the Dublin Airport Authority.

Mr Shanahan was not available for comment yesterday.

Mr Shanahan, who lives in Sixmilebridge, Co Clare, is executive chairman of Mowlam Healthcare.
