Norwich Union General Insurance (Ireland) is encouraging households and commercial policyholders to review their sums insured. All renewal notices will include a House Insurance Rebuilding Guide published in association with the Society of Chartered Surveyors.

The insurer is encouraging an increase of 15 per cent in building and contents cover for household policyholders and 10 per cent in building cover for commercial policyholders.

The cost of rebuilding property has increased significantly in recent years driven by Ireland's buoyant economy and a booming property market. The result of this greater than normal increase in rebuilding costs is that many property owners may no longer be adequately insured, says public relations manager, Ms Anne Matthews.
