Microsoft in Ireland has promoted Mr Ian Taylor to chief technical architect. Mr Taylor will be responsible for developing and promoting Microsoft's .Net and developer product suite in Ireland. He has more than 20 years' experience in the IT industry and before joining Microsoft in 1996, worked with Digital Equipment Corporation.
Public relations firm Drury Communications has hired Mr Glenn Taylor as client director to head up its healthcare division. Mr Taylor previously worked as an account director in the health and consumer sector with an Australian PR consultancy.
Dr Alastair Glass has been appointed director of the information and communications technologies division of Science Foundation Ireland, the national foundation for excellence in scientific research. Dr Glass joins Science Foundation Ireland from Lucent Technologies, where he was vice president and chief technical officer, optical networking group, responsible for Lucent's technology strategy for optical networking.
Mr Gavin Lyons has been appointed business manager at Andrews Surgical Innovations Ltd, following eight years with Wardon Publishing. In his new role, he is responsible for establishing international distribution channels and project planning for the development of new products.
Mr Eunan McKinney has been elected chairman of the Graphic Design Business Association. Mr McKinney is managing director of Source Design Consultants Limited. He has previously served on two of the association's executives and the strategic committee of Design Ireland in 2001. He will be chairman of the association until February 2004.
Slattery Public Relations has announced the appointment of Mr Conor Dempsey as director of its corporate division. Mr Dempsey joins Slattery PR from Text 100, where he was general manager of its Irish operation.
Mr Gordon McMillan has been elected chairman of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. Mr McMillan has spent the past two years as vice chairman of the institute.
Bruce Shaw Partnership, the chartered quantity surveyors, recently appointed Ms Bronagh Carty and Mr Brian McCay as associates with the practice. Ms Carty joined the practice in 1997 and held the position of senior quantity surveyor, responsible for projects such as Microsoft, Eircom network management centre and Citywest Digital Park. Mr Brian McCay joined Bruce Shaw in 1995 as a quantity surveyor and has been responsible for projects such as the Sweepstakes development, Crowcastle office park and Central Park, Sandyford.
E-business security solutions provider Post.Trust has appointed two new channel account executives. Mr Ronan Sullivan and Ms Karen McNerney will be responsible for Post.Trust's security solution, Safemail. Mr Sullivan previously worked as a web developer at Celerity, while Ms McNerney has held sales roles with IBM, Computer 2000 Distribution, Retail Integration and most recently, Post.Trust.
Two senior appointments have been made at DMA. Mr Peter Whelehan has joined DMA as client services director from direct marketing agency 141 Ireland, where he was general manager. Mr Bill Looby has been appointed associate director with DMA.
