The pension rights of first and subsequent spouses remains a complex area, despite the introduction of legalised divorce yesterday, the chairman of the Irish Association of Pension Funds, Dr Brian Aylward, has said.

He said that although regulations regarding pension rights in separations had been issued, trustees were keenly awaiting the publication of guidelines to assist them.
