NUTRICIA Ireland, which runs a milk based baby food factory at Wexford is to invest £5.1 million to modernise machinery and equipment there.
Last year, following restructuring, the manufacturing operations were moved to Macroom in Cork, where 60 people are now employed. At that stage it was intended to close the Wexford plant.
The Wexford plant will also employ 60 people. Mr J C Van de Wielen, president of Nutricia's parent company in the Netherlands said yesterday the company was very pleased the Wexford plant would remain open.
This has come about because, because the management and workforce have shown great initiative in securing the contract for baby food supplies from our Milupa company in Germany.
