A combined heat and power system was unveiled at the Civic Offices, Wood Quay in Dublin yesterday, as part of a project between Bord Gais, Dublin Corporation and Temple Bar Properties. The project involves a natural gas-fuelled heat and power unit located in the basement of the Civic Offices, which will be used to generate electricity and heat for the offices and to export heat to neighbouring hotels and apartments.
Bord Gais is participating in the project through its new subsidiary, Conservation Engineering Ltd (CEL).
According to the project directors, the tariffs charged for heat and power represent significant savings compared with conventionally generated heat and bought-in electricity.
CEL now has plans to place similar units in two Dublin citycentre sites in the coming year.
