MILK Marque, the major supplier to the British dairy industry, has escaped referral to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission after promising changes to its pricing system, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) announced yesterday. The co operative, which assumed control of milk supply in England and Wales after the abolition of the Milk Marketing Board in 1994, had been the target for strong criticism from dairy produce firms. Dairy companies claimed it had abused its monopoly position by increasing prices without regard to market forces.
