In Frankfurt, the DAX 30-share index hit a record trading high of 6,167.51 before losing ground. The DAX 30-share ended trade at a new closing peak of 6,147.87, up 0.88 per cent. The dollar remaining under 1.79 deutschmarks also robbed the market of further incentive.
CAC-40; 4,388.48 (+30.35)
Paris stocks extended their recent rally to close at a fresh record, which followed on the heels of a new intra-day high.
