Marks and Spencer has reported quarterly sales growth but says the industry outlook remains difficult.
Sales at UK stores open at least a year rose 1.7 per cent, excluding VAT, in the 13 weeks ended July 2nd, the London-based company said yesterday. Same-store sales of general merchandise, including clothing and home furnishings, were unchanged. Finance director Alan Stewart said the quantity of goods sold fell as customers bought smaller numbers of more expensive items. – (Bloomberg)
