KERRY Co Op is expecting the biggest meeting in its 20 year history when over 2,000 members are expected at next Monday's special meeting to confirm the mule change which will allow the coop holding in Kerry Group to fall below 51 per cent.
The co op's chairman, Mr Michael Hanrahan, has issued a plea to members to attend next Mondays meeting, which will require a 75 per cent vote of those attending for the rule changes to be approved.
Earlier this month, a confirmatory meeting approved the rule changes by 85 per cent to 15 per cent.
"We expect the biggest turnout ever to a meeting of its kind in the history of farming in Kerry," said Mr Hanrahan.
The previous meeting proved to be a lengthy affair but Mr Hanrahan emphasised that Monday's meeting has only one item on the agenda - the rule change - and should much be much briefer.
To cope with the expected attendance, Kerry is erecting a special marquee at the rear of the Mount Brandon Hotel in Tralee for registration and voting. Registration for the meeting will begin at 2.00 p.m. Car parking facilities will be available in the Mount Brandon Hotel car park and in Kerry Group's car park, a couple of hundred yards, away.
