JEFFERSON Smurfit Corporation has agreed to buy a corrugated box plant from Tropicana Dole Beverages North America, a unit of Seagram. The terms of the deal have not been revealed. JSC is 47 per cent owned by the Jefferson Smurfit Group.The agreement comes into effect on January 31st.
JSC will buy the box making equipment and lease the 173,000 square foot factory in Bradenton, Florida. JSC will supply Tropicana with corrugated boxes made at the plant under a long term purchase arrangement.
The Tropicana workers at the Florida plant will become employees of JSC, which has 53 corrugated box plants throughout the US. Tropicana, a producer of orange juice, said it sold the plant in order to concentrate on its core business.
