Telecoms company Global TeleSystems Group Ireland (GTS) expects to double its workforce from its current 70 staff over the next 12 months, its chief executive, Mr Michael O'Hara, has said.
Mr O'Hara said the company, which claims to be the third-largest telecoms group in Ireland with 2,500 customers, was also aiming to provide corporate customers with services from Ireland to any EU country for the same price.
GTS is a US-based global communications company which took over Netsource last year, a company which in turn had taken over ITL, an Irish telecoms group.
GTS came to prominence last week when it was announced that Mr Brian Thompson, then chairman of Telecom Eireann was taking up the post of chairman and chief executive. He subsequently resigned his Telecom post because of a potential conflict of interest.
The Minister for Public Enterprise Mrs O'Rourke, who officially opened GTS's new Dublin offices yesterday, paid tribute to Mr Thompson, saying he had been a very committed chairman during his time at Telecom.. She joked that there was no way she could compete with GTS on salary for Mr Thompson - she could only offer him £7,500 per annum as chairman of a semi-state company.
