An Irish postgraduate student has been nominated for the EuroPrix MultimediaArt '98 prize in the multimedia title category of the Frankfurt Book Fair. One of 29 nominees, Born with a Broken Tongue was the only one of 11 Irish entries to be shortlisted for a prize. Featuring in the Student's Award Category, it was created by 26-year-old Martin Casey as part of an MA in Interactive Multimedia at the Dublin Institute of Technology this year. The CD-Rom uses multimedia to share personal insights into stuttering. Distorted images and incomplete spoken sentences are used to mirror the experiences of people suffering from this condition.
The overall winner of the competition and winners in the six competition categories will be announced at a special gala event in Vienna on the occasion of the first European Summit Meeting to be held in Austria next month. This is the first Europe-wide competition to award creativity in European multimedia. The competition was jointly organised by the European Commission DGXIII under the INFO 2000 programme, and the Austrian ministry for economic affairs.
