Internet service provider, Indigo, has introduced single channel (64kbps) ISDN Internet access for users who require high bandwidth. Best suited to small businesses where several users access the Internet from one terminal, the Solo ISDN service will cost £19.99 per month. It will facilitate faster Web browsing, file transfer or remote access to local area networks. ISDN data is transmitted more than twice as fast as analogue data, and the modem time of a fraction of a second leads to savings as there is less time spent online.
Indigo claims the Solo ISDN offer is the cheapest ISDN Internet access available in Ireland, though added to the cost of ISDN line installation from Telecom Eireann at £348, the total outlay is substantial. Add to this £160 for a Zoom ISDN modem from Indigo and the total annual cost of £747.88 is still outside the grasp of the regular home user.
