THE managing director of Independent Newspapers' Irish operations, Mr David Palmer, has spent almost £49,000 on 15,500 Independent shares.

The shares were bought on Tuesday and bring Mr Palmer's total holding in Independent to 17,175 shares. He also holds 427,317 share options.
