A broadcasting regulator should be established to deal with the development of digital television in the Republic, an Oireachtas Joint committee has been told.

An IBEC delegation told the Committee on Heritage and the Irish Language that the Telecommunications Regulator, Ms Etain Doyle, "has enough on her plate" and a separate office should be set up to deal with competition likely to arise when digital television becomes commonplace in the Republic.
