Privately owned German Internet service provider Nacamar has entered the Irish market, offering services to both corporate and domestic customers.
Mr Joseph Reid, managing director of Nacamar Ireland, said the company provided both website design and Internet access, and was talking to several corporate customers about providing cable-based data services. Nacamar, based in Frankfurt, says it has 1.3 million users worldwide, 750,000 of whom are in Germany. The company says it has affiliate companies in 18 countries, with international network nodes in the US, Asia and Europe, including Dublin.
The company decided to enter the Irish market in the run-up to deregulation of the telecommunications industry later this year, and according to Mr Reid, already has high-profile customers including Mitsubishi Ireland.
The company says its 1996 turnover was £4 million sterling, while estimated turnover for 1997 is £12.5 million sterling. International customers include General Motors Europe, Seiko and Lufthansa.
