GATEWAY 2000, the American computer company whose European manufacturing headquarters are in Dublin, has reported a 50 per cent rise in net income in the third quarter to $60.7 million. Net shipments for the quarter to the end of September grew 46 per cent, with revenue up 35.4 per cent to $1.2 billion. Revenue growth in the European operation at Clonshaugh, which employs 1,100 people, was slower than in the US because of more severe cuts in average unit prices.
Gateway 2000 is expanding its Dublin operation and will employ an extra 1,200 people over the next three years.
