A NEW biodegradable wrapping aimed at reducing the environmental problems caused by polythene pollution was launched in Dublin and London this week by Fyffes, the international fruit distributors.

The new wrappers were developed by Symphony International which is using biodegradable additive technology to produce a polythene product range which will degrade completely into water and carbon dioxide in a landfill site. The degradation process can take between two months and six years.

Fyffes believes the innovation offers potential for other biodegradable polythene materials throughout the supply chain.
