The Frankfurt market staged a mini recovery thanks to the combined effect of a stronger dollar and a firm bond market. But market participants displayed nervousness during the whole session ahead of publication of US consumer price data for November and US retail prices. Traders said the Frankfurt share market would remain volatile as the end of the year approaches.

CAC 40: 2,212.22 (-1.17)

French stocks closed slightly lower yesterday after a cautious day of moderate trading. Trading was dominated by professionals, with little international interest in French stocks, dealers said. In the later part of the session the market tracked Wall Street and lost some slight early gains.

Italian stocks ended just off session lows after a dull session yesterday. Traders said the market was entirely driven by external factors, moving lower as Wall Street stocks retreated from an early rally and depressed by profit taking on the debt market.
