Background: He is a director of the managing board of ABN AMRO, the international banking and stockbroking firm and has overall responsibility for its international operations. Based in Amsterdam, he is no stranger to Ireland having gone to school in Dublin at St Columba's College and Trinity College. He first joined AMRO bank's foreign department in 1966, but spent over 10 years with Chase Manhattan Bank, before rejoining the Dutch bank in 1979. It merged with ABN in the 1990s and he became a director of the enlarged entity.
