Web hosting firm Exodus, which is under Chapter 11 protection in the US, will not proceed with two planned data centres for Dublin.
It has also cancelled two other centres in Europe and filed for reorganisation of its business in Amsterdam. The other centres are in Munich and in Amsterdam. None has customers or staff.
Of the 21 data centres expected to be set up in the Irish market some 13 are up and running while six are under construction with the remainder deferred or cancelled, according to an IDA Ireland spokesman.
Exodus stressed its international operations in Frankfurt, London, Paris, Melbourne, Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Toronto were unaffected.
The Santa Clara, California-based company filed for Chapter 11 at the end of September, burdened by debts after over-expanding at the height of the dot.com boom.
It has received a commitment for up to $200 million in debtor-in-possession financing from GE Capital, which it will use to fund post-petition operating expenses and supplier and employee obligations.
"In assessing our international operations, cost structure and potential for profitable growth, it became clear that we were over-invested in non-operational or under-utilised facilities in certain markets," said chief executive Mr William Krause.
The firm has filed for reorganisation in Amsterdam to provide protection from creditors.
