Dublin-based firm Greyhound Recycling and Recovery has announced 112 new jobs for Dublin.
This follows the Government’s announcement today that it is to increase the landfill levy to €75 per tonne by July 2013.
Greyhound, which purchased South Dublin County Council’s waste collection business last month, plans to start recruiting 50 new staff immediately These new recruits will be employed in Clondalkin and Ballymount from September 1st, it said.
Another 37 new jobs will be created in July 2012, followed by a further 25 positions in July 2013, as the landfill levy hikes come into force.
“We are delighted that the new Government has recognised the potential to create new jobs by diverting waste from landfill to recycling and recovery,” said Michael Buckley, co-founder and joint chief executive of Greyhound Recycling and Recovery.
“The succession of landfill levy increases announced today unlock the potential to create new jobs in the green economy and to achieve real change in the way that the country manages waste while also bringing clarity and certainty to the waste management sector,” he added.
Greyhound Recycling and Recovery is Ireland’s largest recycling company, providing waste management services to more than 500,000 customers across 12 local authorities. It currently employs 250 staff.
