Eircom yesterday formally rejected a proposal from broadcaster Eamon Dunphy, Senator Shane Ross and Mr Tony Gregory TD to remove five non-executive directors from its board.

Commenting on the decision, chairman Mr Ray MacSharry defended the board's performance and its strategies.
