The Central Bank has appointed Lars Frisell as its director of economics and chief economist

The Central Bank has appointed Lars Frisell as its director of economics and chief economist. Mr Frisell, who will take up his role on June 1st, has been chief economist at the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority since 2009.

He has also worked with the Swedish central bank, in roles such as deputy head of the financial stability department and head of the macroprudential and financial markets division.

Mr Frisell also held a number of research roles at the Riksbank, European Central Bank and the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung, and is a member of the Basel committee on banking supervision.

Central Bank governor Patrick Honohan said Mr Frisell would bring “a wealth of knowledge and insight” to his new role. “He has a wide range of experience in economic policy and financial stability and is a key appointment for the Central Bank,” Mr Honohan said.
