InterTradeIreland appoints Margaret Hearty as chief executive

Co Armagh native says she will provide ‘fresh strategic direction’ to the cross-Border trade body

InterTradeIreland (ITI), an organisation that works to boost cross-Border economic co-operation, has appointed Margaret Hearty as chief executive.

Ms Hearty, from Co Armagh, has worked for ITI since its inception, carrying out a number of key senior roles within the trade body, and she will now be responsible for leading ITI's strategy and services.

ITI chairman Ken Nelson said Ms Hearty had "unrivalled knowledge of the sector, and a proven track record of working successfully with businesses".

Ms Hearty said it was “a great honour” to be appointed to the role. “During my tenure I hope to provide fresh strategic direction to the body as I work closely with staff, board, sponsor departments and partners to drive economic growth.”

To date more than 48,000 small businesses have been supported by ITI to identify and develop trade and innovation opportunities. The organisation has created over 18,000 new jobs and generated more than €1.3 billion in business development value, with cross-Border trade currently sitting at €8.4 billion, its highest level in 20 years.
