Inside Business Podcast: Fiscal Council urges budget caution

Also, Irish Tourist Industry Confederation CEO on why sector needs €60 million annual injection

On the latest Inside Business podcast, chairman of the Fiscal Advisory Council Seamus Coffey cautions that with Brexit on the horizon, the government would do well to mind its money in the upcoming budget.

The FAC, which launched its pre-budget submission this week, will be watching with interest to see what the new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and his Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe will do with their first budget, Mr Coffey said.

Meanwhile, the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation also published its pre-budget submission this week calling for the State to spend €60 million each year for a decade on developing new visitor attractions.

In the second part of the show, the confederation’s chief executive Eoghan O’Mara-Walsh joins Irish Times business affairs journalist Mark Paul and presenter Ciarán Hancock to explain the rationale behind the figures.
