THERE is no need for a second airport in Dublin, according to Cityjet's chief executive, Mr Pat Byrne. Mr Byrne disagrees with Dr Tony Ryan of Ryanair who has been arguing for a second airport to be opened in Baldonnel. The Government has said it is not supporting the proposal.
"The time may well come for a second airport in Dublin but that time has not arrived yet," Mr Byrne told a meeting of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland.
He added that Dublin Airport's plans for coping with the expansion of passenger traffic were "extremely adequate".
The Dublin London route was also doing well, with a favourable mix of business to leisure passengers. However, the Brussels route has not performed up to expectations due to a lack of support from Irish civil servants.
