Most of the 86 recommendations of the strategic review committee on the construction industry would be implemented by the end of March, the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, Mr Dempsey, said yesterday following the publication of its first annual progress report.
Among the recommendations are those dealings with issues like an adequate supply of apprentices, streamlining the planning process and promoting sustainable building. Recommendations for dispute resolution, fixed price tendering for projects of a short duration, agreed tendering procedures and the registration of the titles of "architect" and "surveyor" are also included.
