One of the most traditional businesses in Ireland is tapping into database technology to keep its customers up to date on available stock.
An antiques shop, to be featured on next Tuesday night's edition of Tech TV, is using in-store computers to display its inventory stored at three separate locations. Flanagan's of Buncrana has used a database at its Dublin shop to display high quality images of thousands of pieces of antique furniture and collectibles. Using touch-screen computers, customers can browse through a collection of items that would take up 85,000 square feet of space. The same episode will examine how the Internet is making wedding preparations that bit simpler, and the return of the Minidisc after inauspicious beginnings. Tech TV will also look at the world of biometrics - using physical features like fingerprints or faces for identification - and how it may eliminate the need to remember multiple passwords.
