The German market surged through the 2,900 barrier in after-hours trading on the back of relentless surge by the dollar and a firm bond market. The IBIS DAX Index which reflects after-hours trading closed just short of 2,901 - an all-time high. Dealers believe that the market can continue its rally as long as the dollar holds firm and Wall Street does not weaken.

Paris CAC-40: 2349.11 (+30.48)

French shares closed over 1 per cent higher at a new high for the year, but closed just short of their all-time high. Dealers said that the market was boosted by the stronger dollar and growing expectations in some quarters of near-term interest rate cuts in Europe.

Milan Mibtel: 10545 (+97)

The Milan stock market chalked up a solid gain yesterday, as the Mibtel index advanced by 97 points or 0.93 per cent on the day, to end at 10,545. Traders said the market had been stimulated by the lira's exceptional strength and by a firm bond market.
