CONFIDENCE is returning to the Northern Ireland hotel industry, according to a survey by accountants BDO Stoy Hayward. The survey shows that 52 per cent of respondents are optimistic about the outlook for the next three months, compared to 21 per cent in the last survey in June.
The pessimism rate has fallen from 50 per cent in the June survey to 17 per cent in September despite significant falls in occupancy and revenue numbers in the quarter to the end of September.
Despite the fall-off in activity, almost half of the respondents to the survey have no plans to change their room rates while just over a quarter expect to increase staff numbers in the next three months.
BDO Stoy Hayward partner Mr Shaun Kelly said: "The industry has again highlighted its positive attitude towards future development. Hoteliers are now focusing on growing their business, Many are continuing to implement development plans and are investing in physical assets and staff. The peace process continues to be a dominant factor but the industry is looking to the future potential of tourism."
