RETAIL MARKET:A MIXED-USE development planned for the Co Meath coastal village of Bettystown is set to broaden the appeal of the area in the coming years.
Tesco is to anchor the retail element of the scheme with a store of 3,251sq m (35,000sq ft) which it has bought outright. The €80 million commercial development will also include a further 20 shops with 18,580sq m (200,000sq ft) of retail space which will be available in a variety of sizes from next autumn.
Units will be both for sale and to let. Provision is being made for an extensive car-park with about 1,500 spaces.
Wexford developer Pat Neville has already sold more than 60 of the 200 apartments planned for the site.
Two years ago he also opened the 120-bedroom Bettystown Court Hotel which also has a top class leisure centre including an 18-metre swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gymnasium.
Bettystown and its sister village Laytown have grown rapidly in recent years, attracting thousands of workers who commute daily into Dublin. The availability of a direct railway service to the capital has been a major benefit to the area while the planned new shopping and leisure complex in Bettystown will be a further attraction for families considering locating to the east Meath coastline.
