Forest frolic in Birr

The first national forestry show to be held in Ireland for 14 years is to be staged at Birr Castle estate in Co Offaly on Friday, May 6th. It will form part of a series of special events to mark the International Year of Forests. The event, known as the Forestry, Woodland and Bio Energy Show, is being supported by Dublin-based Liffey Distributors who supply Husqvarna, Jonsered, Aspen, Oregon and Partner products in Ireland.

Costa coffee in Dawson St

Dublin’s Dawson Street is to get yet another coffee shop. Costa Coffee has taken a lease of the ground floor and basement of the Morrison Chambers, a 20th-century building at the junction of Dawson Street and Nassau Street. The previous tenant, fashion retailers Farrell Brown, had been paying a rent of €250,000 per annum. Costa is likely to be paying considerably less because of the overall fall in retail rents. Farrell Brown is part of the Blarney Woollen Mills group which also vacated two adjoining buildings last autumn, 28 and 29 Nassau Street. Niamh Walsh of Lisney has since agreed letting terms with a restaurateur who is now awaiting planning permission for a change of use.
