WHEN John Sarah Kearney moved back to Ireland after two decades living in London, they drove off the boat and stopped off to see friends on their way up to Dublin.
Though Sarah is English, John is a native of Foxrock and might have been expected to move back there.
“We were struck by what a great house our friends had in Wexford. It was the summer of 2006, the weather was gorgeous and everything looked lovely and, of course, it was much better value than Dublin.”
They have lived in Wexford ever since. Last year the duo set up a sales and letting agency, Kearney Co.
“In the UK I was a headhunter but we have a number of properties of our own and we weren’t too happy with the service we were getting from letting agents, so we decided to set up our own,” he explains.
While business was slow to begin with, it is growing steadily, particularly on the letting side. In the meantime the couple, who have two young children, are enjoying Wexford living.
“We’re a couple of miles from the beach at Curracloe – miles of sands and just gorgeous.
Having come from an apartment in London we love the space of the house and having a garden. I’m a clubby sort of person and we are well served here with a tennis club and golf clubs,” said John.
“Because so many people come to Wexford to retire, or from abroad, there’s a nice mix of people too. It’s handy for my wife to visit her mother because we’re so close to the boat, and it’s handy for me to see my family back in Dublin. In the meantime, we’ve got a nice, relaxed quality of life.”
