GALWAY DEVELOPER Gerry Barrett of Edward Holdings is to resell a commercial site at Airport Hill on the Kinsale Road in Cork that he bought in March 2006 for about €10.6 million.
Peter O’Flynn of DTZ Sherry Fitz-Gerald in Cork is now seeking offers of between €2 million and €3 million an acre for the site of 5.5 acres (2.2 hectares) which is 3.5kms from the city centre and within 1km of Cork International Airport. The site has a high profile with good frontage on to the N27. It is close to the Kinsale Road roundabout and the South Link Road network.
Douglas Wallace Architects prepared a high density mixed-use scheme for the site to complement the topography of the lands and allow for a tiered development with retail/commercial use at ground floor level and offices looking out on to the Airport Road.
The rear part of the site was to have been used for additional accommodation, including 101 apartments, a 212-bedroom hotel and a small commercial centre. Although preparations were brought to an advanced stage, including discussions with the local planners, a formal planning application was not proceeded with.
An adjoining site is occupied by Sisk Contractors who share the entrance off the N27. The Sisk site is also along the entire northern boundary of the Edward Holdings site.
Other nearby occupiers include Keary’s Toyota, Lexus and BMW car sale outlets along with Cork Builders Providers.
