IN SHORT:Dublin's docklands is to get a third Christmas market from tomorrow when 40 stalls start trading in the redbrick former railway station facing onto the city quays beside the Convention Centre and PwC offices. The Christmas market continues until January 22nd when arrangements will be made to run an urban market there on a daily basis.
Robert Colleran of agent Vincent Finnegan is handling bookings for the stalls in the LMS Building which are available at an annual rent of €1,000 per sq m (€92.90 per sq ft). The building is owned by Treasury Holdings and is rented by businessman Lee Bradshaw. Two other Christmas markets are to be staged in docklands: beside the O2 and in CHQ.
Koishi Restaurant
A heading over an article in the edition of November 16th stated incorrectly that restaurants in Dublin 4 are to be sold at auction. As the text of the article made clear it is the building at 174 Pembroke Road, which contains two restaurants, which is to be auctioned. Representatives of Koishi Restaurant have pointed out that it continues to trade successfully and is unaffected by the sale of the property.
€2.6m for D2 Georgian
David Bennett of agent DTZ Sherry FitzGerald is seeking €2.6 million for a Georgian house at 26 Merrion Square in Dublin 2. The four-storey over basement building is considerably larger than usual with a floor area of 575sq m (6,200sq ft).
The building has permission for educational use and there is planning permission for a further 185sq m (2,000sq ft) of accommodation at the rear where there are five car-parking spaces.
Tesco opens in Rush
Tesco continues to roll out new stores in Ireland with the latest opening in Rush, Co Dublin. Around 90 jobs are to be created in the store which marks the latest stage in Tesco’s €120 million investment programme for 2011 and 2012.
Local suppliers include spinach grower Colm Leonard and tomato grower, the Kelly family from Rush, along with Country Crest which supplies potatoes and onions to Tesco nationwide.
Eason for Fairgreen centre
Eason is availing of attractive rental terms to open a new store at the Fairgreen shopping centre in Carlow. It is fitting out a unit of 371sq m (4,000sq ft) in the centre which has close to 100 per cent occupancy. Also moving in are European fashion brands Name It, stocking trendy children’s wear, and Vila Only which specialises in female fashion. Savills acted for the Best Seller Group and Lisney advised the landlord.
Emirates seeks Dublin office
Dubai's national airline, Emirates, which is to begin daily flights between Dublin and the Gulf from January 9th, is looking for a ticket sales office in Dublin city centre.
London agent Mellersh & Harding is conducting the search for a well-located premises which will have a floor area of around 185sq m (2,000sq ft).
Emirates' promotional campaign for the new service has been the most elaborate and expensive of any airline launch in recent years. Its advertising campaign even included a lavish ad on the outside of an entire eight-carriage Dart train.
Office's value down by over 70%
A four-storey over basement office building at 9 Ely Place, Dublin 2, bought in May, 2008, by Gerry Barrett's Edward Holdings for €4.25 million, has been resold for just over €1 million.
Karl Byrne of DNG Commercial handled the latest sale of the mid-terrace building which has a floor area of 372sq m (4,004sq ft) and has a rear mews with planning permission for a three-bedroom house. There are four car-parking spaces on site.
Outback cafe opens in D2
A cafe fitted out in a style common in the Australian outback has opened at Poolbeg Street in Dublin 2. The cafe serves "pies and mash" and has corrugated iron fittings and sawdust on the floor. It is run by two young businessmen who recently returned from working in Australia. They are paying a rent of €20,000 a year for the premises which extends to 55.7sq m (600sq ft), according to letting agent Herlihy.
The same agent is seeking a rent of €70,000 per annum for 13 Andrew Street, off Wicklow Street in Dublin 2, where the Laser Video Store has been in business for about a decade. The premises has around 92.9sq m (1,000sq ft) at street level and a similar space in the basement which has also been in retail use. City planners have indicated that they are unwilling to allow any further restaurants on Andrew Street.
