AROUND THE BLOCK:WE'VE SEEN HIM on his RTÉ TV show, Room to Improve, imposing his passion for clean lines and neutral colour schemes on his clients, and on Saturday, September 15th, architect Dermot Bannon will be appearing at the Autumn Design Fair in Beacon South Quarter in Sandyford, Dublin 16.

The talk is on extensions and renovations and he will advise on what areas are best to invest in, on planning, the timing of projects, and costs (which as we know from his programme can tend to spiral beyond the original budget). This will be followed by a QA where attendees can ask the architect's advice on their own house-design issues. Dermot will speak at 2pm but to attend you have to pre-register on beaconsouthquarter.ie.

There will also be five home design experts who will advise on interior design: Philippa Buckley, who will talk about lighting your home; Peter Johnson on how to bring interesting collectibles and different furniture shapes together to create the ideal living space; Paul McCleary, on designing a kitchen space; Anders Nørgaard, from Danish company Nørgaard Designs, on making the most of a small space; and Denise O’Connor, on future trends for Interiors Living.

The furniture retailers at Beacon South Quarter will be showcasing their new collections and offering discounts for one weekend only.
