Journalists sat with rapt attention for the dramatic opening video extract at the introduction of the Hibernian Ignition scheme for young drivers. The clip showed a young man relating how a truck had smashed into the back of his car on the motorway after he slowed down to look at an accident on the hard shoulder.

He was telling his experience to camera while driving and his description was backed up by police footage of the accident.

The road safety lesson for viewers was that driver inexperience causes accidents. The only problem was, as one of the group pointed out, the young driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt in the interview.
