Canonisation for Banco Ambrosiano executive

Very little publicity attended the canonisation last week of a banker

Very little publicity attended the canonisation last week of a banker. Typical left-wing begrudgery against capitalism, no doubt. The banker in question is Giuseppe Tovini, founder of the Banco Ambrosiano, named after the patron saint of Milan and with traditionally strong links to the Vatican. The Margin has no doubt Signor Tovini deserves his elevation. It might be trickier to honour one of his predecessors, Roberto Calvi. He, readers will recall, was found hanging under Blackfriars Bridge in London after some millions of lira went AWOL.
