The global IT industry is going through rocky times but that is not likely to blunt the appeal for young Indian students who want, for a spell at least, to experience life at the cutting edge of technology. Correspondent: The Man From Madras (Saturday, 7.20 p.m., BBC 2) goes to Madras in India where poverty is displayed alongside the success of its IT professionals.

These young Indians are highly sought after worldwide and many are recruited straight from the leading technical colleges to work in the US's Silicon Valley. This has led to concerns that foreign companies could be draining India of its young talent.

The final programme in the German-language series that focuses on everyday business situations, Kontakt Deutsch (Sunday, 8.15 p.m., RTE 1), may make all the difference when clinching the deal.

On the weekend of the inauguration of George Bush, Panorama - The Accidental President (Sunday, 10.15 p.m., BBC 1) asks what kind of president will he make. As international concern about global warming, freak flooding and pollution grows, the man in charge of the world's largest economy has been accused of ignoring calls to clean up the environment in return for huge amounts of campaign cash from the oil, gas and petro-chemical industries.

Ryanair chief executive Mr Michael O'Leary takes off on a different path on Ear To The Ground (Monday, 8.30 p.m., RTE 1) when his Aberdeen Angus competes in the largest show of Aberdeen Angus cattle ever held in the Republic.
