Big Changes for Small Firms a new six-part series begins on Saturday mornings at 10.00 a.m. on RTE 1 this week. It will follow 12 small firms through nine months of growth and change. This first programme features Blarney Stone Enterprises which is building a new distribution system to increase its worldwide marketing opportunities.

The US is increasing the pressure on Europe to be more open to importing its products. Can a damaging trade war be averted? asks The Money Programme: Trading Troubles (Sunday, 7.30 p.m., BBC2).

The creative team of another new series on RTE 1 The Irish Empire (Monday, 9.30 p.m.) asked the central question: how did the people of such a small and poor nation gain such strength in the world? This first programme describes the diversity and scale of Irish migration.

Bosses go to work at the bottom of their companies in Back to the Floor (Thursday, 9.00 p.m., BBC2). In this programme, Mr David Ford, head of Britain's biggest catering firm, Gardner Merchant, has his first taste of serving paying customers.

The clients each forked out £300 a head for a day of food and drink at Royal Ascot. Mr Ford clearly learns from the experience and better conditions for his staff are likely next year.
