A new series, Money Box, Network 2, Sunday, 10.20 p.m., fills a much-needed gap in RTE's programming, focusing on subjects relating to money - house prices, tax returns, EMU, how the economy works, and the stock market.
The problems of farmers and the impact of the slump in farm incomes on the economy are the focus of several programmes this week: Channel 4's Deadline 2000 series, 7.55 p.m. Monday-Thursday, presents short films around the subject - on Monday, it looks at why and how we import food we could grow ourselves; on Tuesday, it focuses on the perceived risks of genetic engineering; on Wednesday, it examines permaculture, in which we see how one individual's 45-acre farm has a turnover of about £45,000 sterling.
Meanwhile Leargas, TnaG, Sunday, 10.20 p.m. looks at how 20,000 small farmers have left the land in the past five years.
Equally troublesome to many are the ills of Britain's economy - just how ailing it is should be illustrated in BBC 2's Westminster Special, Tuesday, 3.15 p.m., when British chancellor Gordon Brown presents his pre-budget speech.
BBC 2's Learning Zone offerings this week include a new series of Deutsch Plus, 4 a.m., Thursday, and Starting A Small Business, Dos and Don'ts, Friday, 2 a.m.
Among the programmes focusing on technology this week are the last in the series The WebStory.com, BBC 2, Monday, 7.30 p.m., which looks at how new technologies work, and why they are difficult to control, and Network 2's Tech TV, Tuesday, 10.15 p.m., looking at the impact of technology on daily life.
