Richard Branson, chairman of the Virgin Group has unveiled plans to dramatically shake up Australia's airline sector with the launch of a no-frills domestic service which promises to slash existing fares.

"Where people are paying, say A$500 a flight between two of the domestic cities, we will be there with fares of less than A$100 for at least 50 percent of the seats," Branson told reporters in Sydney on Sunday.
