Blackstar, the online firm which says it is Britain's largest video retailer, has appointed Mr James Osborne as non-executive chairman. Mr Osborne is a former managing partner of A&L Goodbody and steered the successful flotation of Ryanair. He holds a number of directorships.
Mr Sean Kinsella has been appointed president of Thermo King Corporation. A native of Co Wexford, he became managing director of Thermo King Europe in 1981 and in 1993 was promoted to the post of vice-president and general manager for the company's international division in Minneapolis.
Torc Telecom, the international pre-paid calling company, has appointed Mr Marc Kostiw as European sales manager. Mr Kostiw joined Torc last September as sales manager for France.
Ms Bette Brazil has been appointed sales director with Compass Ireland, the international food service company. The company's brands include Compass Eurest, Chartwells and Bateman. Ms Brazil joins Compass from Sutcliffe Catering.
Mr Ruairi McGinley, a chartered accountant, has been appointed financial controller with Wavin Ireland, the manufacturer and distributor of pvc pipe systems.

Mr Donal Buggy has been appointed group financial controller of Independent Newspapers, having joined the company as group finance manager in 1996. He previously worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Ivernia West, the zinc mining company which is to commence operations in its Lisheen Mine shortly, has appointed Mr Ken Sangster as executive director with responsibility for technical matters. Mr Sangster, a metallurgist, has previously worked for Anglo American, RTZ, Outokumpu and TVX Gold.

The INAA Group, the international network of independent accountancy practices has appointed Mr Tom Fitzpatrick FCA as nonexecutive chairman. Mr Fitpatrick is managing partner of Fitzpatrick Morris Barrett.
Ms Geraldine McCarthy managing director of Corporate Image, has been appointed chairman of the Irish Institute of Sales Promotion Consultants. She succeeds Ms Helen Seymour of Dimension who remains on the board.
