Construction company, Ascon, went online this week to link its headquarters with building sites around the State. The firm is using one of the first virtual private networks (VPNs) installed in Ireland to keep in contact with its remote workers using Internet technology. Developed by Abacus Systems and Networks it enables building sites to access the Ascon's central database in Kill, Co Kildare. Privately encrypted virtual circuits have been implemented to ensure sensitive information is not made available to anyone other than validated authorised Ascon users.
According to Mr Liam Merrins, IT manager at Ascon: "Due to the transient nature of site locations as projects are completed, we are faced with the challenge of providing flexible, cost-effective and robust communications."
