Sad to see the Revenue Commissioners sticking the Kitty O'Shea pub in Dublin's Grand Canal Street with a tax bill of £17,000. If they had known of the owners' altruism, it would never have happened. When CIE announced it was to build a DART station at Barrow St, between Pearse Station and Lansdowne Road, the Loughney brothers offered to pay for its construction. The only snag was the station would have to be named the Kitty O'Shea. CIE declined the offer. Now, as it happens, there is a major delay in going ahead with Barrow Street. Dublin Corporation gave planning permission - with conditions - but a resident has lodged an objection with An Bord Pleanala.
